You have to teach me to share before I can actually share... So you have to share with me some of your stuff! Like... CHEESECAKE. Wouldn't vampires need some fountain of youth... blood? Since they're undead I figure it'd be like drinking holy water and they would be burned from the inside out. D: That is so odd. I'd have trouble mixing the two up from characters alone (デ vs. レ), but it is possible to just read the stuff wrong on accident. I do that a lot. Maybe Dead Pepper just sounds cooler...!? Hahaha. But, L vs. R and various other sounds are hard to translate from Japanese back to English at times. You will never know which they intended unless the word is very common... so with names especially it's hard to tell. Yeah, just make sure to get proactive about German! If you put just a bit more into it it'll make all the difference. I've seen people take like 4 years of the stuff and come out knowing little... so it's important to find other ways to practice. Because you promised to shared them with me just now and are holding some for me, right? Merry Christmas~
Okie! For your first lesson, student, share with me half your belongings. ;] You didn't know? When the vampires get to that age, they drink from the Fountain of Youth. Simple explanation, huh? Now, if only they would learn to SHARE some of that water of life... Ah, I know of that L - R thing from my sister. =D I heard something interesting in regards to FFIX about that. It seems like the Dead Pepper was translated as that because of some pronouncing issues in Japanese. Something with Red Peppers somehow transitioning to become a D sound: Dead Peppers. Nuu, you should use it to learn Japanese. =P I'll learn German in my years of school. =P I'm a bit out of desserts at my house at the moment. >> How could I let this happen? Oh, and it's a little late, but merry Christmas!
I... the student has taught the master! YOU ARE THE NOW THE MASTER! Teach me to share! =P But imagine if something went wrong, and no matter how much I exercised or what I ate I would always stay the same weight. I never got how vampires could just age to like, 18, and then stay like that forever! Too convenient! They're out to trick us! Japanese had some interesting meshed sounds that I have a lot of trouble with. Particularly the r's. It's somewhere between an l and an r, but never quite either. My tongue just can't keep up with it when they're used in succession. I finished most of the courses in school, but I help out the teacher so that I'm able to retain some of it when I'm not studying. Programs would also be good for upkeep, but I think that it's better to take a class first, honestly. There are some things that can only really be gotten when they're explained. I remember seeing specials for Rosetta Stone... I never thought it'd be that expensive. But you don't need it to learn German! You'll do fine without it! I had a nice big piece of brownie today. Not cheesecake, but still yummy. >.>
But the student needs to have a master to learn from first, which means the master has to actually do it himself if the student is to have something to learn at all. God knows that I'm not going to get rich before you. =P Good luck learning to share! =D Or pay to research some sort of magical elixir that will never change the shape of your body. And while you're at it, send an expedition for the Fountain of Youth, too. I DON'T WANT TO GET OLD AND WRINKLY! =' I know that they pronounce syllables much more clearly, like the E's. In Spanish, for example, it's pronounced almost like [teh] but with a much more crispy sound. Most American people can't say it; they say like [tay]. But thankfully, my first language has those sounds, too, so I can properly pronounce Spanish and some Japanese. Are you learning in school or with a program? I heard that that Rosetta Stone thing is really good. =P But just one section is worth hundreds of dollars. >___< I'll make sure that I learn to speak German! Doesn't it? xD I loooooooooooooooooove my desserts. =3
But the student has to surpass the master and all that good stuff! We should probably make a pact or something! Whoever gets rich first shares! Though I'll probably never be rich. Or we can VOLUNTEER. Hmhmhm. Ramble. It'd be nice to have an awesome butler or maid. One would be enough. I'd definitely end up being a marshmallow though... Somehow that became my nickname, actually. But if I had the money I could probably just place my brain into an eternal robot body! Japanese is good for the most part... provided you know how to pronounce it. There's dialect differences and whatnot, but what you read is what you get, theoretically. Unlike English. Man, English. It depends on how fast they talk and if I know the vocabulary. It's really really hit and miss, haha. I'm not quite there yet, unfortunately... but I hope to get a lot further. That's why it's always good to start early! And study on your own too! The middle/high school curriculum is rarely enough. Ediit: That cheesecake looks good...
But aren't you suppose to lead the way and be a role model for me, since you're older? Hmm? I have to mirror your good ways, not vice versa. =D Oh, God. @_@ I think that when I become rich, I'll hire a couple of maids and butlers to do my chores for me. I'm far too lazy. I'll be the handful of extremely lazy people whose body is like a toothpick, not a marshmallow. =P They pronounce their E's at the end like [uh] sounds, so it's like [fay-tuh]. Still, I mistook it for "Fate" when I first saw it in my textbook. =P What about when you hear the words yourself? Can you comprehend what they're saying then?
Did I mention that the world would be a much better place if Bill Gates was actually a philanthropist? >_> Man probably bathes in water made from diamonds. Either way, maybe one day you'll learn to share! Maybe before I do! I don't make mountains. I make new rugs with all my dirty clothes! A few layers of rugs. Fete... is it pronounced like Fate? Given a proper dictionary I'm able to read most Japanese... but that isn't saying much. That's one of the bad things about Japanese! Not completely phonetic. Then there's shorthand, which makes it worse, haha. And then understanding it is also a completely different issue. With enough effort it is usually not impossible to do it though.
Because I'm not a philanthropist like Bill Gates, remember? =P It's my money, after all. 8] Sharing isn't very fun, you know. And when I have a ton of clothes that came back form the dryer and I don't fold or hang them... Geez, they grow as big as a mountain! I thought you might say that! xD Nope, it's "Fete." =P (Only one letter off, that word, I see.) Can you read Japanese characters and translate it?
Lucky guy, not being able to get fat. >_> That's probably a greater luxury than having tons of money. And why not DONATE money to all the starving citizens of the world? Two days ago? Pffft. Try a few weeks. >____> That's really nothing to brag about though... but it happens. I just forget it exists and one day while sifting through the garbage I notice it. Yeah... I need to clean up. Fest? I don't know this stuff. Japanese is so nice sometimes. Party is literally just party, with a variation in pronunciation.
Heh-heh, well, when the words derive form the same ancestral language, then they're cognates. But they do look the same. But that's pretty much it. =P Imagine the cognate between Spanish and Italian. xD But that's something that I don't have to worry about. I can't ever get fat. =D What luxury, eh? If I had the money, I'd just spend it all on comfort and indulge myself. Oo; I hate it when I see some bowls or whatnot in my room and I have to take them downstairs. It bores me. =P But my sister, geez, she takes a TON of stuff up to her room. Sometimes, I see four bowls stacked on top of each other from two days ago. Oo Haha, yeah, they do. =P There's Oktoberfest, too~ Can you guess what the word for "party" is?
Oh, so a cognate is where one word sounds exactly the same as another? Except real ones have the same meaning and false ones are a bit... misleading? >_> What happened to personal achievement! I mean, if you have money you wouldn't have to do anything, but man. We need self-improvement or we'll get fat off of eating filet mignon everyday! I'd take it up to my room but it's quicker to just eat it downstairs. Dragging up the utensils and whatnot is a bother... and I'd just leave them in my room for a year if I did that. We wouldn't have any mugs or spoons to eat with then. I'm pretty lazy. They certainly use fest a lot. I bet there are a million words with the word fest in it!
xD But at least there are a ton of real cognates, too. Musik - gee, I wonder what that could mean? =P That's why if you win the lottery, you should buy yourself a giant house, invite friends over, and throw a huge party. You wouldn't be bored, and you can just cater the food, not even make it. =P You eat it and then head up to your room? I just head up to my room and eat it there. =P I don't mind family dinners, but daily makes it a bit annoying, in my opinion. It's better if we just stay like we are and eat a a family once in a while (or a week). xD I'm not exactly sure, but I do believe that it's Erntedankfest. =P
False cognates? GERMANS WILL GIVE ME POISON FOR CHRISTMAS!?!?! EXPLAAAIIINN!!! Winning the lottery would be nice, but I think I'd end up going to college anyway. It'd be really boring if I just sat at home, not really meeting anyone or doing anything. >.> Same here actually. I usually end up just grabbing something from the fridge or outside and eating it, then heading up to my room. Sorta sad honestly, but it's not too bad I guess. Just once though, it'd be nice to have a good family dinner at home. THANKSGIVING IS KANSHASAI IN JAPANESE EVEN THOUGH THEY DON'T CELEBRATE IT! What is it in German?
Except for those strange false cognates. Oo "Gift" is "poison" in German. xD There's a simple way to avoid it after college, you know. WIN THE LOTTERY! =D YOu'll be set for life. 8] My family rarely gets together. We don't even eat together daily, like most people. Though, I'm not sure why they do. We're just free-for-all. And on "Thanks"giving, too? xD
Hahaha, German is a great way to go. You know English, so it's enough of a heads up. The languages are amazingly similar. Spanish is nice, but... similarly, I find it boring, even if half my family speaks it, haha. That is so true. That fact is more or less an object of fear for me. I want to escape it. =P Our family doesn't get along too well either, so our holidays are usually small. Sometimes we get together though. Still, we don't cook much at home, so it's always eating out somewhere. One day I'd like to sit down to a nice home-cooked meal. Man this conversation has turned a bit depressing...!
