I hate when people complain about the "Friendzone," as well, but I don't think your definition was quite right (although your assertion was spot on.) I believe what they think the friendzone is is when you truly like a girl, and she acts like she likes you back but when it comes down to dating her, she cops out/chooses another guy, and says that you both can still be friends. I see it as a polite rejection, and treat it as such, rather than complaining about it.
