Silly Unknown, this was also Sephiroth's plan. You see, even though they stopped him from becoming a full-fledged god, Sephiroth already absorbed plenty of the Lifestream's energy. He knew that by saving the planet he initially wanted to wound, it would ease the minds of everyone on the world and allow his eventual rise to power to be more smooth. 2 years later, he sent out his three selves to finish what he started by bringing Jenova's head to the Shinra building and Kadaj summoning him. All a part of his master plan.
Yah but latter she ruins some of his plans by destroying his asteroid and such..
You mean the other way around, correct? With perfect grace, he swoops down on the unsuspecting girl, and in a single slash, ends her pitiful existence. He knew she would suffer, so he freed her from her torment. He grants salvation to those in need.

Sephiroth was SOOOO close! The world would have been his if those fools didn't interfere. But Sephiroth, the badass that he is, had a plan B. He would LET himself get destroyed, and be reborn by Jenova's cells in AC, anyway! And even though Cloud beat him again, it was already too late. Sephiroth can never truly be erased from existence, he'll keep coming back. And one day soon, the world will be his.
Just because he woppes on Sephiroths butt doesn't mean I can blame it on him, and at least he didn't try to destroy the world just because of a few idiots...-_-
Hmm... blame it on Cloud. He is my arch nemesis because he hates Sephiroth.
