Wow! That's incredible...! If that's what your old stuff looks like... I feel so amateur in comparison, haha! That's really neat. Do you have any other things you've made uploaded? I'd like to see more! Its also really cool to hear about how you've improved; I know how you felt, feeling like you could only use pencil! Everything else just seems so... permanent, and harder to work with sometimes. I've obviously experimented with other mediums since then, but I still feel a lot more comfortable with a good old pencil, heheh.
Thats great I always have to be in the mood or inspired at the moment because it just won't turn out good.. honestly, before the only thing I did was draw in pencil, sketches and such of my favorite game and anime characters (nerdy I know). I drew ever since I was five, I remember trying to draw Sailor Moon It started with that and literally just watched anime all day( episodes I recorded) and would examine the eyes and face shapes. I realized as a child that there isn't just one style of anime, but every series has it's own unique style. After drawing so much every day( I would stay up till like 3) that I just got better and better. I still have some of my first drawings from when I started till now. I'ts crazy. Even in elementry I was known for being a really good artist. Then I started using Ink, and realized I shouldn't be afraid to make mistakes. Jr year of Highschool I took drawing and painting 3 and 4 and I would look at the AP work and think I could never do that...all I ever did was draw in pen and pencil. The Idea of using anything else worried me. My teacher, I had her for 1 and 2 my freshmen year as well and she convinced me to switch to AP. I think the first thing we did was Charcoal. my first few were whatever because we had to draw from a still life, which I never cared for. I think I drew my hand (hands..which I still suck at till this day) when I realized I could actually work with different medias was when we did a mixed media portrait. I't was like second best in the class. we would always have critiques.. This is it here: http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u...g?t=1252997697 now I like doing everything pretty much, still experimenting. My fav right now though is India ink. you use it kind or like watercolor but you can't lift it.
I'd really like to see some of the things you've made sometime! They sound really interesting, and our conversation is kinda inspiring me to want to pick up a pencil and draw! Maybe a couple quick sketches before bed. Like you, with a pencil I draw just about anything, but I guess most works of art start with a sketch, right? Most of the time I draw random characters from whatever video game I'm into at the moment. I wish I could say I'm more varied than that, but that's mostly what I draw, heh. When it comes to painting and other mediums, I actually like doing either portraits, fantasy scenery (usually I use vivid colors), and more... Its actually been a long time since I've done anything other than drawing, I'm too busy with work and school... Seriously, when I'm not doing either of those, I'm sleeping. xD
If I do people It's usually a my-made stencil type or funny, cartoonic, or Urban looking. I don't really like making things Tooo realistic, it bores me to death. When it comes to pencil, anything goes.whenever I use paints, I always end up doing some type of mixed media, using things like coffee and acrilic for textured pieces. I don't draw animals very much. I tend to not use things that are typically seen like flowers ( boring) or scenerty.. Probably because I'm not a pro painter, I just apply what painting skills and color theory knowledge I have to my art, and combine it with other elements. what do you usually use?
I used oil paints for one project, but it was pretty simple. Oil paints aren't exactly easy to use, and they're so expensive, so you don't really get the chance to experiment with it much... xP So what do you mostly draw/paint? People, animals, scenery, all of the above?
I like water color as well, I just got a new set of Acrylic. I've never used it and I wanted to try. I never use oil though...
Ohhhh, you meant what art I personally like to do? Well that narrows it down a bit! I'm like you, I love a classic pencil and can do/have done things with pastels and charcoal, though I personally dislike working with both of those things as they're far too messy. Especially charcoal! I also like watercolor paints a lot, and acrylics. But mostly, I keep to my pencil and just sketch things, its been a while since I've done any sort of art that I'd actually consider a project, and wasn't just a sketch.
well I personally only do Fine type art, drawing, using India Ink, ect...I can work with things like pastels and charcoal but I don't do any sculpting. I paint a little but just mainly abstract. Kinda everything as well
Well that's a very vague question indeed! I guess I can't be cheap and answer "all kinds", can I? =P What about you?
yeah!! hehe, so what kind of art do you like??
Don't worry, I used to be Brokey Brokerson! And its not like I'm swimming in cash now, I just got enough to get by. Still gotta pay for gas, groceries and phone bills and whatnot. So in the end I'm not much richer than you are. Such a depressing realization! Well luckily we have plenty of time to figure everything out~.
No job for me..brokey MGgee It's so hard to find a job now...we're in the same boat..I don't think I'll know exactly what major until I graduate ugh!! so many options..
Yeah, ouch. School is expensive. Do you have a job or anything? Jobs are so hard to get these days, I'm really lucky that I happen to know the right people, I've pretty much always had a job available to me. But even with the jobs I've got, there's no way I could pay for my classes without financial aid. xD I agree with that last line, you never know! I wish I had an idea of what kind of career I want. All I know is that I'd like something in the art category.
My classes are really chill. It just sucks having to get pre requisites and art done at the same time becacuse art alone is really expensive. You have to buy all your art supplies and sometimes it's killer. But worth it anyway..I can't say specifically but I figured, use the skills I have and I can't go wrong..I guess your given the talents you have for a reason^^ I'm guessing my major will be along the lines of Media type Art. You never know..
Luckily I've got the patience of a... very patient person! You kinda need it to survive in my kinda job, or those kids will wear you thin. Its also the kind of job that can make you get sick easily though, which is why I'm home right now and not at work. =P Oooh, that sounds like the type of thing I plan on majoring in! How do you like your classes? Do you have any idea what you want to do for a career?
