  1. I am just the sort of guy who changes his mind about films as time goes on. Sometimes it is days, weeks, even years when I catch it on television or something.

    1. I liked Burn After Reading, didn't love it. It reminded me of Raising Arizona (80's Coens).
    2. Steve Zissou is okay, I liked Wes Anderson's other films much more. There do seem to be some rabid fans of it, though.
    3. Was that real or fake? If it is real, it is hilarious, but if it is fake, that is some impressive acting on the part of the high voice guy.
  2. I'll number the things I want your thoughts on, so you don't forget one.

It's a funny movie, and it's definitely cult. It's obviously one of the best films in its genre. I like it better than Burn after Reading. I can see why it is cult, and wasn't a commercial success, but I don't think it's as good as, say, Pulp Fiction (or Fight Club for that matter).

The thing with films is, it's not meant to be only liked after seeing it more than 1 time. It's different from a music album in that respect. So it's only logical that some films make you go WTF when you think about it a day later, or when you talk about it with friends, instead of instantly making you go wow. A bit like some South Park episodes.

    1. Have you seen Burn after Reading? Thoughts? Compared to other Coen films?

    2. And The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou? (I see it as Coen-like humor with a touch of Monty Python.) Think it will become cult?

    3. Also, it might be true that the characters are more recogniseable for Americans. There are shows that are hilarious to watch if you're Belgian, but I can imagine that it comes across rather surreal to people from larger countries (read: pretty much anywhere else). Watch this video and tell me what you think: YouTube - "Boemerang": Erik Hartman laughs at his guests. Subtitled.
  3. I think it is the best film of the 90s.

I wonder if it might be an American thing. Every day I meet people who remind me of Walter, The Dude, Donny, etc.

I didn't love it initially, but it has grown on me over the years.
  4. Just watched The Big Lebowski. It was alright. I really laughed at some things Walter said. Some hilarious quotes in there.

I'm not sure why it is considered such a great film though. It's really comical, but it's not fantastic, film-wise. Any thoughts?
  5. Yeah I visit your blog from time to time, since I've got a passion for films myself. My plan when I was 15 years old was to go to film school, but my folks told me to achieve something 'decent' before doing that. But whatever.

Comment. Hm. Well I guess reading it (albeit rather rarely) must mean liking it?
  6. You read my blog? Comment!

I was wrong on Zodiac initially, I should write a retraction. I watched it again and appreciated the mood much more.
  7. You loved Zodiac? That's not what you're blog says.

    Haven't seen Benjamin Button yet.

Fight Club and The Game are superb, but I still have to see Se7en.

On another note, I'm going to see Donnie Darko today. It's supposed to be a cult movie, so I think I'll like it.
  8. He has his moments. I loved Zodiac, but The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was the worst movie of the decade.
  9. Are you a David Fincher fan?
  10. I saw Heat this weekend. I liked it but had been expecting more. I think The Departed, for example, is better. Granted, there's ten years between those films, but I just thought Heat would be better.
  11. Haha.

After two years of studying English and Dutch, I have French again (I'm studying Journalism now). Now I realise how bad my spoken French is. I have to rethink everything.

    My written is good though.

So feel free to ask for help.
  12. Help! I need to be fluent in French by August. Give me help.
  13. Nice.

I really need to see The Big Lebowski.

But I don't seem to have a lot of time these days.
  14. So, I was minding my own business, browsing Wikipedia, when Fight Club appeared as the featured page. Checkmate?
  15. Not at all.

But I share a lot of his ideas. Society doesn't provide satisfaction.

If anything, Tyler Durden is more of a Buddhist. Apart from the fighting.
