The Michael Swayne Story V: King of his Castle

Starting the Year Off Right!

This morning I woke up to a baby crying. My brother brought a girl home, and with her was her kid. I just love waking up to a screaming baby. I highly doubt my brother will be this again in the future. I think Dad told him what's what after I went to work. But then again, how would I know. After all, maybe Dad is letting it happen because of how he is messing up his life. Anyway, I gave my brother a piece of my mind when he got up. And that's all that matters.

Work today was nice and quiet. I packed a couple sandwiches for my lunch, and bought some chips and a soda to go along with it. The actual work was alright. I had more insertion orders with "Get Pull Date" on them. And since I haven't had Gabby working in the office when I do, I don't have a chance to actually tell her that she needs to be more descriptive on the insertions. So I wrote her a note telling her why I can't be getting insertion orders with that written on them. I was as nice as possible, and compared to what Pam (the owner) and Misty told me to say to her, is really really nice.

Then this afternoon I was getting the trash bagged up to take to the dumpster. I had put my McDonald's bag from last Wednesday in the recycling bin because at the time it was the only trash in the office. I didn't want to get one of our giant trash bags out just for that one thing. Anyway, I took it out of the bin and saw that under it were a whole bundle of newspapers dated for December 27, 2012. I was shocked to see them. I mean, all of our carriers do their job splendidly. Or so I thought. I know that Pam took her papers because we talked while I was folding my papers last Thursday. I know that I delivered mine, because I saw myself deliver them. So, by process of elimination I determined that Gabby was the one who didn't deliver her papers.

I sent a message to Iris to find out what we should do about it. She came to the office to see it for herself. I even counted them to make sure they were hers. Sure enough, there were 215 papers there, the exact amount I give Gabby each week. Iris then called Gabby, Gabby then lied to Iris, Iris put the papers in her car, and drove to Gabby's house to confront her. Before I closed the office I sent a message to Iris asking if she would be back before I left. She said no, and so I left.

I think I know why she didn't deliver the papers. Gabby has never liked delivering them, and has even told me as such. She likes the money she gets for delivering them. I would too if I got paid $35 to deliver 215 papers. My business route is 170 papers, and I only get $15 for delivering. It doesn't seem fair, but gas is something Gabby needs to deliver newspapers. Anyway, other than her not liking the delivering, it was really cold last Thursday. The weather plays a big part in delivering.

What I don't get is why she tried to hide it, and felt that hiding them in the office's recycling bin was the best place to get rid of them. I have seen several carriers hiding places. Some tend to delivering double, triple, or even five times as many papers to get rid of them quickly. Others take them to a dumping spot (one of those places that ends up getting a sign saying $500 fine for littering). I don't think she will be fired outright for what she did, but she may lose her route.

Anyway...

I was so tired from having been woken up so early by something so annoying, that I fell asleep after dinner. I still feel tired now, but I will probably not be able to sleep tonight. I may have to find something to do to get some sleep. As for tomorrow, I will be in an ad making frenzy. I have six pages right now, and I have nothing else to put in the paper. Misty said she'd be in tomorrow to sell the last two pages. I don't like being this far behind on the paper, but I couldn't do anything about it. I can only put in what I'm given, and that wasn't much. This week's paper may not be profitable, but at least it will get done.

Well that's about it tonight. I hope to see you around the forums, and until I do...

Later!

Michael
