The Michael Swayne Story V: King of his Castle

Chocolate milk...

Today was grocery day. Dad came by and asked for a list of things to get. That was uneventful. When he brought the groceries, he stuck around longer than he seemed to want. I wanted to ask him the question that had been bugging me lately. Ask him if he's planning on moving back before Mom comes home. But I couldn't do it. Instead, I played with the kittens. They were chasing each other and climbing all over me. If I get the chance tomorrow, I may ask him.

Other than that, I put the new stamps I got in the album. The stamps are getting fancier and fancier as the years go by. It's a great way to see how stamp styles have changed over the years when I get them. Having stamps from when the Presidents were in office is also owning a piece of history. I don't ever get the feeling that I am there when the stamps were first made, but I do sometimes wonder what the stamps were used for. What kind of letter or package was sent using that stamp. Of course, I can wonder that if the stamp is in mint condition. But that is something different entirely.

Well, rather than ramble on and on about philatelic studies and how I would love to get more stamps from other countries, I guess I'll end this entry here. I hope to see you around the forums, and until then...

Later!

Michael

I actually have a substantial coin collection (some going back to the 1850s) and feel pretty similarly. Whenever I see a wheat penny from the 40's, I can't help but wonder how much history that coin has seen, between both foreign and domestic conflicts and evens.

Other than the State quarters and the Presidential Dollar Coins, I don't collect money unless I intend to spend it. And even then, I normally don't even see the money. I do see your point. I sometimes go through my stamp albums just to look at the tiny images used to send mail from one place to another. And it's great when I get a stamp that has a postmark on it, because then I get to thinking of that place and how it is so different from now.

However, numismatists and philatelists have an expensive hobby sometimes. Like right now they are offering a replica of the Inverted Jenny (the original nowadays costs hundreds or even thousands of dollars) for $2 per stamp.
