The Michael Swayne Story V: King of his Castle

By the Fire, But not Nice and Cozy

It is so cold in the house that the fire isn't doing anything other than making me angry. It isn't the fire itself that's the problem. It's the fact the wood stove isn't sending the heat to the rest of the house. But I guess that maybe it is, but when the air hitting the house is way below freezing temperature (currently it's -5°F/-21°C without factoring in the wind), it makes the house a whopping 56°F/13°C. It sucks a lot because I wanted to play more Grand Theft Auto III in my room, but it is so cold in there that my fingers aren't functioning properly. I had to do Bomb Da Base: Act II several times because my fingers wouldn't control the sniper rifle's controls properly. So that's why I am typing this up on the laptop near the stove. I'm hoping that the battery and other things on the laptop get really warm so I won't be so cold.

U is feeling the cold temperatures as well. Normally he stretches out when he sleeps on me. Right now though, he is curled up in a ball between my legs. He has some uses, I guess. At least my calf muscles are warm right now.

I had a moment of panic this morning. This morning I went outside to feed Luca, my dog, just like I do every morning. I had a bowl of food and a gallon of water. The gate to her area was frozen from the ice and cold the night before, so I poured some of the water on the latch to unfreeze it so I could get in. In the time it took me to put the food in her food bowl and pour the water in her water bowl (about two minutes), the wet latch had already refrozen. When I went to let myself out, I wasn't able to leave.

Immediately, I started to panic. I mean, I was stuck outside with no one around to help me. My thought process went straight to methods of keeping warm. The only way I could get out of the cold was if I were to climb in Luca's house. That wouldn't be a problem if she wasn't obsessed with climbing all over me and licking my face. Besides, I haven't been able to get through the door of her house in ten years.

So while I was keeping the wind from going in the doghouse with Luca inside, I thought of ways to get out. The fence is too high to climb, and my fingers were already too cold to grasp things, so that's out. I tried pouring more water on the latch, but it didn't work. Then it hit me. Use the big stick that Luca is always playing with. It's more of a club, really. Anyway, I started beating the ice off the latch, being careful not to break the latch itself. Finally, the ice was off enough to free me from my frozen prison.

So that was my morning. The only time I was actually warm today was when I took a shower. If I didn't have to worry about the cost of water or running out of hot water in the water heater, I would probably still be in there now. But I am instead trying to be warm near the fire. But again, it's not working.

I was also wanting to work on the two RPs I am in. I could work on them, but my posts are so tied in with the images I have created that I would have to go back to my and transfer them over to the laptop. Which would necessarily help with the one RP, because it is that character card I showed you all a while back. It changes as I defeat more enemies and gain experience. Oh well.

I am not without things to do. I did bring my Nintendo DS and Pokémon Black 2. I am about to take on the first Gym in the game. I decided to go the Water-Type only route when choosing which Pokémon I want. I have Oshawott, Azurill, and Psyduck on my team. I hope I do well in this first Gym.

Anyway, that's all for now. I hope to see you around the forums, and until then...

Later!

Michael

PS, if I don't post an entry tomorrow, it is safe to say that I am a frozen block of ice.

WD40 works wonders to de-ice pretty much anything, and hot water tends to freeze faster than cold. True story!

I can't get my head around how cold it must be. I've only touched snow twice. If it makes you feel better, I'm lying outside on the grass in the sun writing this. I'm about to move to avoid being sun burnt and it's so bright I can barely see what I'm writing. But I think I would willingly trade places with you. It sounds so exciting.

I know about WD-40's deicing powers. But my brother took what we had in the garage with him when he left for work. So I was left with the water. I just didn't think I would be stuck in there.

And Alpha, I'd be more than happy to trade places with you. But I wouldn't want you to do my job for me. It might be too much to put on someone, despite your bicycling skill. The strong winds and cold temperatures are brutal on the lungs the first few times. Your welcome to come here and take as much snow as you like though.

Please dont freeze!! I like reading your blog because you always have something new to talk about. I went to visit my cousins in California thinking it would be warmer and its definitely nicer than Chicago right now but its even been cold here a few times!! Its crazy weather this winter. Climate changes are pretty serious.
